First Lady Joan Chavis

Joan (Alford) Chavis was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the fifth child to the late District Elder James T. Alford and Evangelist (Mother) Kathleen Alford. Joan met and later married Minister Daniel Chavis, and they have served together in the ministries of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

At Apostolic, Joan Chavis has served in many capacities. She was one of the first pianists, taught Sunday School for various age groups, started the Church Choir, worked in the Missionary Department, Prayer Band, and in the Women’s Ministry Department. Joan Chavis served as President of the Apostolic Church Women’s Ministry. She held the office of Assistant Secretary of the Northwestern District Council and the Women’s Ministry.

First Lady Chavis is the woman beside the man. Still today, she works with her husband, District Elder Daniel Chavis Jr, in the ministries of the Church. In serving Missions, District Elder and 1st Lady Chavis have carried their love for people to Europe and Africa. 1st Lady Chavis is presently matriculating her degree in Education.

She loves fellowshipping with the saints of God and witnessing to others that do not know Christ.
